The Public Health Department within the Kasr Elaini Faculty of Medicine Cairo University has been established around 150 years ago aiming to expand knowledge in health sciences by uncovering the fundamental mechanisms of disease and promoting research that addresses these problems . The Public Health Department provides a multidisciplinary approach for health through integrating population, social , behavioral , environmental , nutrition , health management as well as epidemiologic methods and medical statistics sciences together . The department also provides courses in the epidemiology of communicable and non communicable disease as well as the maternal and child health , and care of special groups .

    The department serves over 5000 undergraduate student and around 1000 post graduate student yearly . The department also provides teaching courses to Medical Syndicate , ministry of Health and Population , Faculty of Nursing as well as the two Cairo University branches in Fayoum and Beni-Suef in Upper Egypt . The department mission is to prepare the physicians who have appropriate knowledge and skills to work as effective leader of the health team . The department provides them with capabilities to act proactively in applying efficient and effective health promotion , prevention and control measures in any health care setting .
